Mussoorie: The four-day-long Mangsir Bagwal festival that started on Tuesday is being celebrated in Jaunpur, Jaunsar, and Hawaii valleys near Mussoorie with traditional fervor.

The traditional festival marks the homecoming of legendary warrior Madho Singh Bhandari exactly a month after Diwali.

On Thursday, people gathered at villages in the valleys in large numbers, prepared various delicacies using locally grown rice, millets, and pulses, and performed the traditional dance ‘ Bhailo ‘ to celebrate the festival.

Sunil Nautiyal, a resident of Baglo – ki – Kandi village, said, ” The tradition is to collect Kawai grass from the forest and make a rope from it which is called ‘ Bandh ‘. In the evening, we worship this rope, and later the rope is used for a tug of war amongst the village youth. “
