Meerut : In the wake of the recent Kanpur tractor – trolley accident that claimed 26 lives after it turn edturtle and fell into a pond , traffic police in Meerut launched an extensive drive to curb the practice of using tractor trolleys for travelling .
This came after chief minister Yogi Adiyanath directed the officials to conduct awareness campaigns on road safety and to ensure that tractor trolleys are not used for travel .
Superintendent of police , traffic , Jitendra Kumar Srivastava said , ” A team of traffic police personnel created awareness among the tractor – trolley owners in several villages and towns in the district . The drive , so far , has covered over 18 localities , includ ing 13 towns and five villages in the district . The awareness drive is ongoing . “
During the awareness campaign , two tractor – trolleys carrying passengers have been seized and 47 vehicles were challaned for violating traffic norms . A fine worth Rs 4.800 was recovered during the drive against tractor trolleys.
