New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday told IAS officers of 2020 batch to spend more time on the field than depend on just digital mode when working in districts . He also advised them to understand issues faced by the citizens considering that they will be heading different departments and become secretaries when India celebrates its 100th year of Independence .
Sources said Modi told the young officers that they , being administrators , must re main more connected with citizens and people want to see them on ground . He was ad dressing 175 IAS officers who worked as assistant secretaries with 63 ministries and departments at the Centre for three months . ” The focus was on how to implement programme through people’s participation and why they should be open to get feedback from citizens , ” said an official who was present in the meeting .
Another official said the PM’s reference to the change of name ” from Rajpath to Kartvyapath ” was a signal to the young officers they must shed the attitude of being ” rulers ” and rather feel that they are doing their ” duty ” by being in the position of decision makers . ” The PM mentioned how the focus of the governance has shifted outside Delhi , to all regions of the country . He gave examples of how important schemes are now being started from places outside Delhi . The PM suggested the officers develop an understanding of the local culture of the area of work and strengthen their connection with local people at the ground level . He asked them to focus on One District One Product and explore the opportunities of ex porting products of their district , ” an official release issued by the PMO said .
The government said Modi also asked officers to prepare their action plan for the aspirational districts program and look at interventions in tackling malnutrition . ” Highlighting the success of Jan Dhan Yojana earlier , the Prime Minister talked about the importance of digital economy and exhorted the officers to try to connect people across villages with digital economy and UPI , ” the PMO said .
