Bareilly : Two of the six accused in the rape and murder of two Dalit sisters, aged 14 and 17, were found to be minors by a court in Lakhimpur Kheri on Friday. One of these two is 15 years old while the other is 17 years and 5 months . However, the latter will be tried as an adult as per the amended Juvenile Justice Act.

The 15 – year – old accused will now face the juvenile justice board and will be shifted to a juvenile home .

The court also found the application and affidavit submitted by the parents of two other accused as incorrect and ordered legal action.

On September 14, two minor sisters were allegedly raped and murdered at a village in Lakhimpur Khe ri district. There were widespread protests in the area following the incident. Police arrested six young men the next day and charged them with rape and murder.

A charge – sheet was, thereafter, filed against all the six accused under IPC sections 302 ( murder ), 376 – D ( gang rape ), 323 ( voluntarily causing hurt ), 201 ( causing disappearance of evidence ), 452 ( house trespass ) and 34 ( acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention ) along with sections of Pocso and SC / ST acts.

On September 29, the local court framed charges against all the accused and started proceedings against them.

Additional district government counsel Brijesh Pandey ” Counsels of three accused submit ted pleas before the court claiming that three of them were minor. After a probe, facts submitted about two of them were found incorrect while a 15 – year – old will face the trial as a mi. “
