SC protects Abhishek Banerjee of TMC from arrest by CBI , ED

New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Mon day stayed till April 24 a four – day – old Calcutta High Court order directing the CBI and the ED to investigate Trinomial Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee along with fellow party man Kunal Ghosh in connection with alleged irregular irregularities in recruitment of school teach ears in West Bengal .

Senior advocate A M Sanghvi , appearing for Banerjee , said the HC judge took note of a public speech by Banerjee and on April 14 ordered the CBI and the ED to investigate him along with Ghosh even though Banerjee had no links with the alleged scam . ” I have great respect for the judiciary . But this kind of order should never be passed by the HC , ” Sanghvi said .

A bench of CJID Y Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardew la posted Banerjee’s petition for detailed hearing on April 24. ” Till the next date of hearing ( April 24 ) , we stay all action against petitioner ( Banerjee ) as per the April 13 order of the high court , ” the bench ordered , which will shield the TMC leader from questioning as well as any co – receive action from central probe agencies till April 24 .

Sanghvi said the HC judge , without giving an opportunity to Banerjee to ex plain , took note of his public speech about alleged coercive actions being taken by central agencies to implicate people in the teachers ‘ recruitment scam and ordered the central agencies to in vest iGATE the TMC leader along with Ghosh , an accused in the scam .
