New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Trinomial Congress spokes person Saket Go hale in connection with alleged mis appropriation of funds collected through a crowdfunding platform after noting that a chargesheet in the case has already been filed by Gujarat Police .
A bench of Justices B R Gavial and Vibram Nath granted him relief . Gokhale was arrested by the Ahmedabad cyber crime branch from Delhi on December 30 , 2022 and is facing charges under IPC Sections 420 ( cheating ) , 406 ( criminal breach of trust ) and 467 ( forgery ) .
Gokhale moved the apex court challenging an order passed by Gujarat High Court which refused to grant him bail . While rejecting his plea , the HC had noted that there was a prima facie case against Gokhale . “

It appears that there are serious allegations against the applicant . The investigation is going on and the chargesheet is yet to be filed … it appears that funding raised for welfare of the people was utilised by the applicant for his personal expenses , ” the HC had said .
A complaint was lodged against Gokhale by a deputy secretary in the Gujarat government on December 28 , 2022 alleging that the funds were to be used for the welfare of the poor people but was misappropriated for his personal expenses . Gokhale , however , refuted the allegations and claimed to have been targeted out of political vendetta .
