Gandhinagar : The 12th edition of Defence Expo 2022 culminated in Gandhinagar on Thursday with some 451 MoUs signed with investment commitments of Rs 1.5 lakh crore. Union defence secretary Ajay Kumar said this has broken all previous records of MoUs and investment commitments at an Indian defence expo.
Highlighting the importance of being self-reliant in the defence sector at a seminar at the expo, Union defence minister Rajnath Singh said, ” I have seen a phase in our country when the process of procuring military equipment was so time – taking that when it reached us, the world would have gone far ahead. During the India – China standoff, I had to go abroad thrice in about nine months ( to procure defence equipment). ” Singh also said that the government has set a target of taking India’s defence exports to $ 5 billion by 2025.
