Dehradun : In a decision taken by the board of DAV PG college, teachers at the institution have been asked to submit affidavits of non – affiliation with any political organization, party, or move that has met with criticism.
Officials said that the decision had been taken after some teachers of the college were found ‘ politically active on social media and in public settings. ” Photos of some of the teachers working with political parties and organizations were also circulating on social media. UGC guidelines are clear in these matters. Interests of the educational institution have to be put first, ” said principal Dr. KR Jain.
Officials said that teachers have been asked to submit an undertaking by November 26 to the effect that they aren’t working with any such political institution and are not using their position for any vested interest.
The move has also invited widespread criticism from some teachers of the institution. ” Some of them have objected to signing the undertaking. We will review that decision in the next board meeting. For now, we are only asking for the declaration. A policy will also be formed to handle those teachers who refuse to comply with this requirement, ” said Jain. Jain also said that any reports of teachers being asked to resign for failure to file the undertaking are incorrect and any such decision is yet to be taken.
