NH-74 land acquisition cam: HC reserves verdict

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand high court on Monday has reserved the decision in a case related to the over R 2,000 crore National Highway (NH) 74 scam that came to the light in 2017.

Following the orders of the lower court, separate cases were filed against the 10 accused by the enforcement directorate (ED). That order was challenged in the high court.

All the 10 accused including DP Singh, Arpan Kumar, Sanjay Kumar Chauhan, Vikas Kumar, Bhola Lal, Bhagat Singh Donya, Madan Mohan Poldi, Varinder Singh Bal want Singh, Ra- mesh Kumar and Om Prakash have challenged the trial court’s order of April 28, 2020, by filing separate petitions.

Since some of the accused have multiple cases registered against them, if they seek permission not to appear in one case, they will have to apply for the same in other cases too, failing which an order may be passed against them.

Significantly, irregularities were detected in the acquisition of farm- land for the purpose of the NH-74 in Udham Singh Nagar district between 2011-2016.
