Bareilly : A relative of an Uttar Pradesh minister was arrested and sent to jail on Friday after he allegedly rammed his car into a restaurant following a tiff with the owner in Bareilly’s Premnagar locality on Tuesday night. Police have now added section 307 ( attempt to murder ) of IPC against him in the FIR after CCTV footage of the restaurant showed that he tried to run over the restaurant staff. Accused Amit Kumar Saxena’s four aides are on the run.
According to the complaint filed by the restaurant owner, Sushant Kashyap, at Premnagar police station, Amit, along with three-four men, came to his restaurant and introduced himself as the nephew of a min ister in UP. They threatened the restaurant owner with dire consequences if Rs 1 lakh is not paid to them.
” They said I will have to pay up if I were to do business. When I refused, Amit and his aides assaulted me and my staff. Later, he rammed his car into the restaurant and vandalized it, ” said Kashyap. The CCTV recording of the entire episode is with police, claimed Kashyap.
Additional SP ( city ) Rahul Bhati said, ” An FIR under IPC sections 384 ( extortion ), 506 ( criminal intimidation ), 147 ( rioting ) and 504 ( intentional insult ) has been registered against Amit Saxena and four unidentified men. After an initial investigation, section 307 ( attempt to murder ) has also been added to the FIR. The main accused Amit was arrested on Friday and the car has been seized. Action is being taken as per the law. ” Police said efforts are on to nab the other four accused.
According to officials , Amit is a repeat offender. In June this year, he allegedly assaulted a home guards platoon commander in public in Bareilly . A video purportedly showing him insulting the officer and tearing his uniform in public had gone viral on social media. Days after the incident, an FIR was registered against him under sections 323 ( voluntarily causing hurt ), 504 (intentional insult ), 506 ( criminal intimidation ), and 353 ( assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty ) of IPC at Izzatnagar police station.
