Dehradun : A 73 – year – old farmer , who was working in his field , was attacked by a tiger and dragged about 100 metres away into the bushes and then mauled to death in Malnar village of Kotwal sub – division of Pauli district on Thursday evening .
Sharing the details , billhead , Khushendra Singh , said , ” The victim , Bi redraw Singh , was harvesting his wheat crop when the tiger pounced on him from behind and killed him . Hearing his cries for help , villagers tried to chase the animal with sticks , but it had disappeared by then .
” On receiving information , the forest team of Garhwali di vision led by Deva range officer Mahindra Singh Rawat reached the spot . Rawat on Friday that cameras have been installed in the area to trap the big cat .

” Two teams from Kala garb Tiger Reserve and Garhwali division have started night patrolling in the area and we have written to senior officials for permission to set up a cage there , ” Rawat said , adding that a full – grown tiger has been spotted in the area .
Rikhanikhal SHO , Arvind Singh , meanwhile said that the victim’s body has been sent for postmortem . The area where the incident took place is adjacent to the Aligarh Tiger Reserve and is an active territory for lurking tigers .
