Dehradun : An iron bailey bridge over the Dhule Ganga river in Chemo li district , connecting Nitti Valley on the India – China border with the rest of the state , collapsed on Sunday while a truck was passing through it .
The truck driver managed to save himself by jumping into the river be fore the bridge gave away . The incident occurred around 4.30 pm at Burans near Mallari .
Soon after the incident , the Border Roads Organisation ( BRO ) , responsible for upkeep of roads and bridges in the area , dispatched a team to the site and commenced reconstruction of the bridge . ” BRO is working on a temporary bridge to resume the traffic movement as soon as possible , ” said Lt Col Manish Srivastava , PRO , Defence ( Dehradun ) .

SDM of the area , Kumkum Joshi , that ” currently , there are no residents in the area and only Army movement takes place through the bridge . ” ” The last human habitation , Mallari , is located 30 km before the col lapsed bridge . We are hopeful that with in a day or two , temporary arrangements will be made for the movement of Army vehicles , ” Joshi said .
Meanwhile , Colonel Ankur Mahajan of BRO said that ” vehicles have been diverted to an alternate route and construction of a causeway over Dhule Ganga is underway , with completion expected by Tuesday . “
