New Delhi: The Indian Olm- pic Association (IOA) on Thursday formed a two-member ad-hoc committee, consisting of its executive council (EC) member Bhupinder Singh Baja and sportsperson of outstanding merit (SOM), Suma Shirr, to run the day-to- day affairs of the Wrestling Fe- deration of India (WFI).
The committee will also hold elections to IOA’s new executive committee (EC) following the charges of sexual harassment against the wrest- ling body’sunderfire chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, by the country’s top female wrestlers.

IOA will also appoint a retired High Court judge to assist the committee for fair and transparent election. The transitory body will be responsible for managing the affairs of the federation, including se- lection and participation of sportspersons in international events. The wrestling feed- ration’s earlier proposed election on May 7 was declared null and void by the sports ministry earlier this week after wrestlers led by Bajrang Punnai, Vi- nesh Phocas and Sakshi Malika sat on dharna at Jantar Mantar here demanding filing of an FIR against Singh and his arrest by Delhi police.
“Suma is from IOA’S SOM and Bajwa is an EC representa- tive. It’s imperative that day-to- day functioning of the federa- tion isn’t affected. One retired HC judge will be added soon.
The judge will guide the committee from the legal standpoint. It will be an athlete-friend- ly body,” said IOA’s joint secretary and acting CEO, Kalyan Chau bey.
