New Delhi : India’s formal sector employment in nine non farm sectors including manufacturing , education , IT BPO , and health , among others , rose marginally by four lakh in the quarter ending March 2022 , according to the fourth All India Quarterly Employment Survey report released on Tuesday.
With this , the total number of workers employed across manufacturing , construction , trade , transport , education , health , accommodation and restaurant , IT / BPO and financial services rose to 3.18 crore from 3.14 crore in the third quarter , 3.10 crore in the second quarter , and 3.08 crore in the first quarter of 2021-22 , a labour ministry statement said . In all , the total employment across the nine sectors in creased by 10 lakh between January 1 , 2021 and January 1,2022 .
The increase in employment figures , the ministry claimed , showed a recovery in economic activities in the post – pandemic period .
According to the QES , the fourth in the series of re vamped surveys released last year , manufacturing continued to be the highest employer , accounting for 38 % of the total workforce , followed by education ( 22 % ) , IT / BPO ( 12 % ) and health ( 11 % ) . Put together , employment in these four sectors account for 83 % of the total estmated workforce in the nine sectors . Trade and transport sectors engaged 5.3 % and 4.2 % of the total estimated workers respectively , the report said .
The labour ministry also said that total employment in the nine selected sectors taken collectively was re ported at 2.37 crore in the sixth Economic Census ( 2013-14 ) .
The survey reported a marginal increase in the participation of female workers in the last quarter from 31.6 % in the third quarter to 31.8 % in the fourth quarter . Female workers constituted about 52 % of the workforce in the health sector , 44 % in education , 41 % in financial services and 36 % in the IT / BPO sector Women workers also outnumbered men among self – employed persons in the financial services sector .
However , comparative data for the 2020-21 financial year is not available since the last survey conducted by the Labour Bureau the seventh QES was conducted for the quarter ending September 2017
