Nainital: The Uttarakhand high court on Tuesday sought the government’s response on a PIL challenging non – availability of Sunday as a holiday in most of the state’s Sanskrit schools and colleges.

Petitioner Girish Lal Arya, a resident of Chamoli, stated that out of the 12 Sanskrit schools and colleges in the state, three institutions offer Sunday as a holiday and the rest get a holiday on ” Tripta ” ” Ashtami “. ” Ashtami may fall on any day of the week depending on the calendar.

That’s why Sunday should be declared a holiday in all Sanskrit schools and colleges under the Sanskrit Education Directorate, the petition stated. After hearing the matter, a division bench of chief justice Vipin Sanghi and justice RC Khulbe asked state government, the director of Sanskrit education, chief education officer of Chamoli, and others to file their reply by April 18, 2023.
