Nainital : A group of social activists from Haldane , led by RTI activist Hemant Gonio , have sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi , CM Pushkar Singh Dham and governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh ( red ) , urging them to ” save Nalini lake ” .
In the letter , the residents alleged that a sewer drain runs right next to the Maltitol Masjid and the Naima Devi temple , due to which plastic , dirt and filth ends up in the Nalini lake . Photos and videos of con examination of the lake have been enclosed with the letter .
” In the past , we have taken it on ourselves to run several cleaning campaigns along the lake’s edges . If the government doesn’t take action to save the lake , we will approach the high court .
We may also file an query as to what has been done to preserve the Nalini lake , ” Gonio said .
Nalini lake is the main source of water for Nainital , besides being a major tourist attraction of the town .
