Nainital : The Uttarakhand high court heard a PIL on Thursday regarding increasing human-wildlife conflict and attacks by leopards in hill areas. After hearing the matter, the division bench directed the government to form a committee under the chairmanship of experts.

Along with this, the court has asked to present a progress report in two weeks on the measures taken so far and further action to prevent human-wildlife conflict, along with holding talks with experts every two weeks. The court has fixed April 27, 2023, as the date for the next hearing in the case. Dehradun-based social worker Anu Pant said in the PIL that human-wildlife conflict is increasing in the hill districts, in particular attacks by leopards. On average, 60 people die of leopard attacks every year. In hill districts in 2020, 30 people were killed in leopard attacks, while 85 were injured.
