Bareilly : Five policemen including a sub – inspector were suspended on Sun day for allegedly mishandling a group of UP’s pilgrims in Bareilly on suspicion that they were robbers .
The policemen reportedly got input that a group of robbers were passing through a forest in Aonla area on the intervening night of Saturday and Sun day . They allegedly mistook the pilgrims to be robbers and roughed them up .
However , later it was found that they were local residents , who were on their way to a temple . Based on their com plaint , SSP Bareilly had suspended the five of them .
Additional SP ( rural ) Rajkumar Agarwal said , ” The incident happened because of some misunderstanding . After receiving a com plaint from the victims , a probe was ordered and the policemen were prima faci found guilty of mishandling the pilgrims . Four con stables and a sub – inspector have been suspended and a departmental enquiry has been ordered against them . “
