Meerut: In the run-up to UP civic polls, a case of attempt to murder filed against the brother of former MLA and BSP leader Imran Ma- stood has raised political tempers in Saharanpur where Masood’s sister-in-law is fighting for mayoral election.
His brother Noman Masood has been booked for firing at the state revenue team that had gone to Biharigarh region of Saharanpur to take measurements of a disputed land allegedly grabbed by Masood.
SHO (Biharigarh) Been Singh said, “The accused along with his domestic help Pehle Singh has been booked under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and 407(rioting).”
Reacting to the development, Imran, who had left Congress before UP polls, joined Bhajan Semaj Party (BSP) in October last year and is considered to be a political heavy- weight in the region, said, “BJP is using all means to destabilise us as we have launched my sister-in-law as mayoral candidate. This case is nothing but a political witch hunt.” Notably, Saharanpur is BSP’s stronghold and the sitting MP also belongs to the party.
