Dehradun : The Pauri Garhwal district administration on Tuesday suspended and ordered a departmental probe against the local patwari and revenue police sub – inspector , Vaibhav Pratap Singh , over ” gross negligence ” for initially not registering a case pertaining to Ankita Bhandari’s murder despite being in formed about the incident on September 19 , a day after she went missing . Instead of taking action , the officer went on a four – day leave and allegedly didn’t inform his seniors about the matter .
The findings have come up in a preliminary inquiry . The report was submitted to DM Vijay Kumar Jogdande on Monday , following which action was ordered against Singh on Tuesday .
A written order issued by Jogdande stated , ” Local villagers were very angry about the inaction by Singh , who had been informed about the incident . Although a case was registered by the revenue police amid huge furore on September 21 , the anger was still in tact as it was done on the com plaint of main – accused Pulkit Arya and not the girl’s father . “
The order said : ” ( Singh ) went on a four – day emergency leave citing the ill health of his father , from September 20 to September 23. Before going on leave , he neither registered a case nor informed senior officials about the matter . This pointed to gross negligence to wards his duties and responsibilities .”
The DM , while citing the findings in the report , suspended Singh ” with immediate effect ” on Tuesday and or dered a departmental probe by the deputy DM of Lansdowne against him . ” During the suspension period , he would be attached to the Thalisain tehsil of the district . Further action would be taken against him once the report is received , ” Jogdande said .
Meanwhile , police in Dehradun registered two separate cases of criminal intimidation under section 506 of the IPC at the Raipur police station against ” unidentified ” persons for ” threatening ” two journalists who were ” reporting too much about the case . “
