Dehradun : A carcass of a sub-adult female elephant was found in the Kaladhungi range in the Nainital district on Tuesday morning. According to local officials, the jumbo might have got electrocuted since burn injuries were found on its trunk and the carcass was found near a high-tension electricity line.

Divisional forest officer ( DFO ), Kundan Kumar, said, ” The body of the elephant, aged around 15 years has been sent for the post – mortem to ascertain the cause of death. Besides, the viscera has been sent to IVRI – Bareilly. Skin samples and hair have been sent to the Wildlife Institute of India for further tests. It doesn’t seem to be a case of doctor Veterinary poaching. ” Dushyant Sharma, meanwhile, that they found burn injuries on the trunk of the carcass. Sharma added, ” We’ll get the final post – mortem report on Friday. Electrocution cannot be ruled out as similar incidents have been reported in the region in the past. “

Forest block officer Khyali Ram reached the spot in Thapaliya Ganja along with his team. DFO Kumar was also present.
