Dehradun : A 33 – year – old auto driver, who was allegedly hit by an ambulance at Inder road on Wednesday, died during treatment at a private hospital on Thursday, following which an inquiry has been ordered into the matter.
The victim, identified as Sharad Kumar, was on his way to the railway station with two passengers when the fatal incident occurred.
” The ambulance was taking a 55 – year – old heart patient from Nawada to the district hospital for an emergency. The accident happened at 4.45 am at a crossing near the hospital. The auto driver was rushed to the district hospital in the same ambulance, ” said Anil Sharma, general manager, of 108 projects.
The two passengers in the auto also sustained minor injuries. Sharma further said, “Preliminary investigation suggests that the ambulance was at a speed of 24 km/hr. While the report is awaited, the driver has been removed from duty. “
Officials also said that the auto driver was coming from the wrong direction and hit the ambulance twice after losing control.
” An ambulance with an emergency patient will never be at such a low speed as the officials claimed. Necessary action should be taken against the erring driver: Sha rad was the sole earning member of his family and his death has left them in the lurch. They should receive due compensation and his wife should be provided a job, ” said Rohit Tyagi, a family friend, and neighbor.
