Delhi HC to hear afresh pleas by CBI , ED , against 2G scam acquittal

New Delhi : More than 5 years after the 2G case acquittals and over 2 years since the last effective hearing , the Delhi high court on Thursday took up the appeals for preliminary hearing on the aspect of granting leave to appeal .

The appeals , lying in cold storage ever since the Covid – 19 pandemic halted hearings , came up before Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma , who asked the CBI , the ED , former telecom minister A Raja , and others , to file their submissions . The CBI and the ED have challenged the acquittal of the accused people and firms in the 2G spectrum allocation case .

As the counsel for the CBI urged the court to list the matter on an early date when he would argue on the aspect of granting leave to appeal , the court listed the matter for May 22 and 23 .

The probe agencies have been urging the court since 2019 for an early , dedicated hearing , but the matter has not progressed despite being listed before several judges .

Though the CBI had earlier concluded its submissions on the issue of leave to appeal , it will have to argue the matter afresh , as a new bench is in place over the matter .
