Dehradun : The Uttarakhand state vigilance department, probing the alleged irregularities in the development of a tiger safari at Corbett Tiger Reserve, arrested a suspended forest ranger; Brij Bihari Sharma, in As sam on Thursday. This was the first arrest in the matter.

Sharma and some other forest officials, including former divisional forest officer ( DFO ) Kishan Chand, were booked for their involvement in the illegal construction and felling of trees for the tiger safari project. The case was registered following a report by National Tiger Conservation Authority ( NTCA ), which found the allegations to be true during the inquiry.

Dhirendra Kumar Gunjiyal, superintendent of police, vigilance, said, ” The department was making constant efforts to nab Sharma. Our team is bringing him to Haldwani after getting a transit remand order from a local court in Assam. He will soon be produced before the court in Haldwani, ” said Gunjiyal.

Gunjiyal said, ” The department would soon nab the other accused in the case as well.
