Dehradun : Pritam Singh, the six-time Congress MLA from Chakrata, held a protest rally against the BJP government led by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, slamming the ruling party on several issues, including the UKSSSC scam and its poor handling of the Ankita Bhandari murder case. The rally, meanwhile, also confirmed the cracks in Uttarakhand Congress, as both party state chief Karan Mahara and former CM Harish Rawat were missing. The three party leaders have seldom been seen together at any event together.
For instance, Singh and Rawat did not attend the Bharat Jodo yatra started by Mahara from Mana village. Rawat meanwhile announced a four-day Bharat Jodo yatra in the Haridwar district.
Singh’s rally on Monday was a show of strength, as 14 of 19 Congress MI. As turned up to support him, including the leader of the opposition Yash pal Arya, Mayuk Mahar, Bhuvan Kapri, Aadesh Chauhan, Tilak Raj Behar, Sumit Hridayesh, Go pal Rana and Furkhan Ahmed. Congress members gathered at Rangers Ground and after covering Darshan Lai Chowk and Astley crossing, tried to close in on the secretariat premises. Here, they were stopped by the police. The protestors and cops also got into a brief scuffle.
