Dehradun : Four members of a family died and two others were injured as three houses collapsed in Paingarh village. Tharali block of Chamoli district, due to landslides on Saturday.
According to locals, the mishap occurred around 2.15 am as a huge boulder fell on a house and killed four. Two adjacent houses were also damaged in the incident though no one was injured.
” Upon getting information, teams of the National Disaster Response Force ( NDRF ), State Disaster Response Force ( SDRF ), state police, and revenue police rushed to the spot. It took over three hours to clear the debris and bring out the four bodies. The condition of the two injured is said to be serious. From Tharali CHC, they were referred to another health center for better treatment, ” said SDRF commandant Manikant Mishra.
The victims have been identified as Devanand Sati ( 57 ), his sister Buchli Devi ( 75 ), his brother Dhananad ( 45 ), and Dhanand’s wife Sunita Devi ( 37 ).
Locals said that Diwali preparations were underway in the village and that the tragedy has cast a pall over them. A villager said 70 families live in the area that has witnessed several landslides and rain-related accidents in the recent past.
from Tharali, and the motorable road ends 3 km before the village. As a result, its residents have to trek for the remaining distance to reach their homes.
