T he Super Cup returns to action on Saturday after a three – year gap . It’s a tournament that gives I – League clubs a chance to prove that they are second to none while for Indian Su per League teams it’s an opportunity to show they are the indeed the heavy weights of Indian football .
The first day’s action will see Bengaluru FC take in on Serenade Deccan while in the second fixture , home favourites Kerala Blasters will clash with I – League champions Round glass Punjab .
The third edition of the tournament will feature 16 teams 11 from ISL and five from I – League . The 16 teams are divided into four groups .
The group toppers will enter the semifinals and the final to be played at Kozhikode on April 25 .
The last edition was mired in controversy after seven major I – league clubs pulled out of the tournament citing AIFF’s unfair treatment . Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mohan Bagan , who withdrew from the tournament in the last edition , have got direct entries this time . They are playing in the ISL now .
