Aligarh : In the wake of a tragic incident where a 70 year – old retired doctor and former UNICEF employee , Safdar Ali , was mauled to death by stray dogs while on his morning walk at the Ali garb Muslim University ( AMU ) campus , the civic body of Aligarh launched a drive to vaccinate street stray dogs on Tuesday . The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the university , and video clip of the attack has gone viral on social media .
The commissioner of the municipal corporation of Aligarh City , Amit Averi , said , ” The civic body has identified areas where the stray dog population has in creased , and all dogs from the AMU campus have been captured and vaccinated be fore being released back in to their natural habitat .

So far , 11 dogs from the AMU campus have been vaccinated , and plans are underway to purchase cages and hire a building to safely house aggressive stray dogs . “
” The AMU’s proctor , professor Muhammad Wasim Ali , confirmed that the university administration had written a letter to the Aligarh Municipal Corporation requesting action to catch wild dogs from the university campus . Despite no police complaint filed by victim’s family , the police sent Ali’s body for autopsy to determine the cause of death .
