Agra : In a show of togetherness while campaigning for Mainpuri Lok Sabha byelection, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday stooped to touch the feet of his uncle and Pragatisheel Samajwadi Par ty ( Lohiya ) chief Shivpal Yadav and assert ed that there has never been any strain in the family ties.
The show of bonhomie was greeted by thunderous applause as Akhilesh addressed a rally in the family bastion of Saifai. Akhilesh’s wife, Dimple Yadav, is one of the six candidates in the fray for the Lok Sabha by-poll. The seat fell vacant after the death of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav on Oc tober 10.
Shivpal told the gathering, ” Aap ne Kaha Ek hojao to hum Ek hogaye. Ab bahu kojeetadena ( you asked us to unite and we have done so . Now, make the daughter-in-law win ). ” Shivpal said, ” Reputation is at stake in this election. Dimple is our daughter – in law. Everyone who is sitting here carries a part of ‘ Netaji ‘. This is a fight for honor, and all the records have to be made in this election. “
Akhilesh said the ongoing polls are important because, after BJP’s defeat in Bengal and the change in the power equation in Bihar, it was UP’s turn to halt BJP’s victory run and prevent it from coming to power at the Centre. Polling in Mainpuri will be held on December 5, while the counting of votes will take place on December 8. The Mainpuri parliamentary constituency has five assembly segments Mainpuri, Bhongaon, Kishi, Karhal, and Jaswantnagar under it. In the 2022 assembly election, SP won Karhal, Kishi, and Jaswantnagar seats, while BJP won in Mainpuri and Bhogaon assembly constituencies.
