Bareilly : A 32 – year – old man was killed on Saturday after being attacked by a tiger near Katnariver in the Maheshpur range of the south Kheri forest division which falls under the social forestry region in Lakhimpur Kheri district. This is the sixth such incident that happened outside the core forest area in the district since August.

According to officials, the victim was identified as Veer Pal, a resident of Bakarganj village. Pal had gone to the sugarcane field to collect fodder when he was attacked by the big cat and sustained serious injuries on his neck. He was immediately rushed to the community health center in Gola town where he died during treatment.

After getting the information about the incident, south Kheri divisional forest officer San jay Biswal visited the area along with field staff to take stock of the situation.

” We have recovered the pugmarks of an adult tiger from the spot . We have asked villagers to stay cautious while going to the sugarcane fields, ” said Biswal, adding that the presence of elephants in the forest area has led the tigers to venture out and take shelter in cane fields. We will monitor the area for the next few days.

He further said, ” The victim’s family has been assured of every possible support from the government. “
