Pilibhit : In the current festive season, the district administration launched a government scheme in Pilibhit to provide a mini LPG cylinder ( 5 kg ). The cylinder has been named ‘ Chhota ‘ which, as per the district supply officer ( DSO ) in Pilibhit, Vikas Kumar, is to be made available to 1.48 lakh residents in the initial stage.
” After receiving the government order on October 11, we have begun taking steps to expedite the execution of agreements between oil companies, distributors, and fair price shops, ” the DSO said.
Unlike the distribution of 14.2 kg cylinders through the chain of LPG dealers, ‘ Chhota ‘ will be marketed by the fair price shops of the state government’s public distribution system in both urban and rural areas. Any person can buy a ‘ chhotu ‘ with his or her valid showing identity like an Aadhaar card. The fair price shops would be permitted to keep a maximum of 20 cylinders at a time. The bulk stock would be maintained by the existing LPG dealers at their go-downs, the DSO said.
The move has evoked a mixed reaction. ” Chhotu is nowhere a matter of relief for poor families, but a financial burden on them. We will be required to pay Rs 114 for each kg of LPG under ‘ chhotu ‘, ” claimed a teacher of a private college. While another woman, Rajeshwari Devi of Joshi Tola locality, said, ” We can use ‘ chhotu ‘ at least on festive days. “
