Rudrapur : The Udham Singh Nagar police arrested four members of an inter – state gang of poachers from the Gola bridge cut in Pulbhat ta town of the district on Monday for attempting to sell a leopard’s skin . Police also seized the hide from their possession .
The accused were identified as Surendra Singh Bagadwal , and Rohit Kumar Gethiya , both residents of Tallital , and Heera Lal of Mukteshwar in Nainital , and Trilok Nath of Dwarahat in Almora . ” During interrogation , the accused revealed that they bought the leopard skin from Chandan Singh , a resident of Midar in Champawat district . They were planning to sell it to Usmaan Ali , a resident of Baheri town in Uttar Pradesh . The accused also confessed to smuggling tiger skin and bear bile , ” said SSP Manjunath TC .

” The leopard hides are professionally skinned , giving rise to a suspicion that their business was very organised , ” the SSP stated , adding that a probe is on into the incident .
The SHO of Pulbhatta police station , Kamlesh Bhatt , and his team acted on a tip – off and recovered this skin when the accused’s car was intercepted at the bridge cut . The four accused were booked under the Wildlife Protection Act , 1972 , and other relevant sections of the IPC , while the vehicle used in the crime was impounded .
