Dhanbad : At least four coal thieves were killed and two others seriously injured when the Quick Response Team ( QRT ) of the CISF fired at them at a railway siding in the Dhanbad district of Jharkhand early on Sunday. The incident happened when nearly 100 coal thieves attacked the CISF personnel deployed near KKC siding at the BCCL’s Benidih colliery under Baghmara police station limits.

The deceased were identified as Pritam Chouhan, Suraj Chouhan, Md Shahzad, and Md Attaullah. The injured, Badal Rawani and Ramesh Ram have been referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences ( Rims ), Ranchi, in serious condition. CISF DIG Vinay Kajla said the QRT team was on its regular duty on Saturday when around 11.45 pm, they spotted four thieves on a motorcycle lifting coal from the railway siding. ” When challenged, they left the bike and fled. Around 12.15 am on Sunday. when the person was returning to their outpost after inspection of the area, a group of 100 people riding nearly 50 motorcycles blocked the exit point. They dragged the QRT team in charge out of the vehicle and started beating him, ” he said.

Kajla added. ” When they tried to snatch the arms, the CISF personnel fired in self-defense, killing four of them on the spot. The matter was reported to senior CISF as well as district administration officials, and the injured were admitted to SNMMCH, Dhanbad, which referred them to Rims. “

SP ( Rural ) Reeshma Rameshan said the police were investigating the matter and will lodge an FIR based on the statement of the CISF officials. ” We have found nearly 20 bikes abandoned by the coal thieves from the spot. No arms or ammunitions have been re-covered yet, ” she added.
