This comes amid an ongoing probe by the Special Task Force ( STF ) into the 2016 VPDO recruitment scam.

Police have zeroed in on at least 35 SIS who allegedly used the wrong means to clear the exams. The development has come amid the case registered against 12 accused, including two officials of Pantnagar University who allegedly helped the 35 candidates in cheating. A total of 356 candidates passed the exam and were later recruited by the state police.

One of the officers of the vigilance department, requesting anonymity, ” The department has identified at least 35 SIs who passed the exam and got the job using unfair means. These police officers are currently posted in different districts and would soon be nabbed after collecting adequate evidence against them.

The officer added, ” Apart from the 35 SIS, there are several other staffers of Pantnagar University who are also under the radar for their alleged involvement in facilitating cheating in the recruitment exam. They would also be nabbed soon for questioning as per the proper legal procedure. “

Prahlad Meena, superintendent of police, vigilance department, said, ” The agency started probing the case after chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered an investigation in August this year. We have been collecting pieces of evidence against the suspects in the case before arresting them. “
