2 killed in tiger attacks in Khari

Bareilly : Two persons were killed in separate tiger attacks in UP’s Lakhimpur Khari on Friday . This came a week after a woman from Nepal was killed by a big cat in the core area of Dutywa Tiger Reserve ( DTR ) .

The first incident was re ported in the afternoon when a lurking tiger attacked 45 – year old Chandrawati Devi , who was working in a cane field with her husband , Nembutal , in Sam purana Nagar town of Khari .

Nembutal , who goes by his first name , is a marginal farmer and lives in the Krishna Na gar locality . On Friday , he and his wife were working in their cane field when a tiger pounced on them and caught Chandrawati by the neck .

A juvenile Bengal tiger (also called “Royal Tiger”, Panthera tigris tigris) is resting on a tree. The Bengal Tiger is critical endangered, the total population was estimated in 2011 at fewer than 2,500 individuals with a decreasing trend.

Nembutal shouted for help and attacked the big cat with a sickle but it was too late . While the tiger fled into the forests , Chandrawati couldn’t survive the wound to her neck that the animal had inflicted .

The second incident was re ported near Mahram Pura village in Taunia , where the partially – eaten body of missing farmer Pritam Singh ( 45 ) , who had gone to his wheat field near Mohan river , recovered from near a forest .

Deputy director , DTR ( buffer ) , Sundaes ( goes by his first name ) , said , ” The first attack in Sompura Nagar was accidental as the tiger didn’t return to eat the prey . Our team was mon storing the area . It seemed like it was a tigress with cubs who displayed aggressive Beha vigour after seeing the couple . We have asked the locals to re main cautious . ” At least 32 people have lost their lives in tiger attacks in the past three years in UP , with most deaths being reported from Mahram Pura and its adjacent villages .
